ICENCA is happy to announce the appointment of Mr Boris Erg as IUCN’s new Regional Director of the Regional Office for Europe, effective 1 November.

This very important appointment is particularly inspiring, given Boris has been with IUCN for many years. He brings 25 years of experience, of which over 10 years is in managerial leadership.

In 2015, Boris was appointed as Director of the IUCN Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (ECARO), based in Belgrade, Serbia. There, he oversaw IUCN’s strategic growth from a modest operation in South-Eastern Europe to a vibrant regional programme in Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus, and North and Central Asia. Boris holds a Magister degree in Environmental Management, obtained from the Centre for Multidisciplinary Studies at the University of Belgrade. As an active member of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA), he has published on the topic of protected and conserved areas, and contributed to advancing the global framework for transboundary conservation. His core competencies include strategic planning, organisational development, and partnership management. Throughout his career, he has cooperated with numerous United Nations agencies, European Union institutions, as well as international, national, and local organisations.

In his free time, Boris enjoys exploring cultural heritage, nature photography, and cycling. He is also actively involved with grassroots organisations and social events.
